The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
